General Poker Talk

I have played in a tournament style home game for the last 2 weeks and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Anytime you get a group of good poker players together and keep it friendly the good times just seem to follow. The hosts for the tournament are very hospitable and run a really good game. I have been fairly successful but I didn’t win either game, but I really had a good time.

I have played my share of games and I have been in places that were nice and some that were not so nice. Some places were actually scary. When I find a good game it makes me want to play more often. I find myself thinking about poker in my daily routine. I also play better during times like that, because I go over in my mind the hands that gave me trouble the week before, and plan ways to correct my play . I also kick myself a few times for the bonehead plays that I made. And I do make way too many of those.

In summary, I advise all poker players who love the game to pick the games that you are comfortable with. If you aren’t comfortable you won’t have fun or play your best. I have also found my love of the game declines when I don’t have a good game to go to. Thanks to all the guys and gals that have made poker so much fun for me the last 2 weeks. I hope to stay in their game as long as they will allow me to play.

Johnny Chan

Johnny Chan was born in China and through a series of moves ended up in Houston, where his family owned restaurants. He attended the University of Houston until he was 21 when he quit school and moved to Las Vegas to become a professional gambler. Since then he has won 10 WSOP Bracelets and over 3 million dollars in the Series. Add those numbers to his other winnings and I’d say he’s been very successful at his chosen profession.

Take a look at this video and you’ll see just how good he is.

Visit The Silver Slipper

The Silver Slipper Casino in Bay St.Louis,MS is one of the newest casinos, but it’s one of the best on the Gulf Coast. I don’t usually talk about the food but it’s worth the trip to the coast to eat at Jubilee Buffet. Those folks know how to cook!

The poker room is small but nice and the property itself is really great. If you get the chance take a trip down there. I was pleasantly surprised, and I’m sure you will be too.

Let Them Push You Around Sometimes

Sometimes players feel like they’re being bullied by someone at the table. When they get short stacked it seems like the big stacks just seem to push them around. In lots of circumstances they try to push back,to show they can’t be bullied. More times than not they get busted out and leave with less cash than they could have won.

Instead of playing aggressive in that position, you should pick and choose the most opportune times to strike and gain a few chips. There are times when aggression pays off but you must pick your battles wisely. Only get your chips in the middle when you feel that you have the best hand. Be patient and the bully problem will take care of itself.

Play patient and you can save your chips for that moment when you know you have it, then pray for action and take as many chips as you can on that hand. With a little luck with the cards you’ll build your stack back up to the point that you can’t be bullied. Maybe even get a monster stack and start pushing the bully around. And that’s how you pictured it anyway…..isn’t it?

Good Luck at the Tables!

Jennifer Harman

If you watch poker on TV then you surely know Jennifer Harman. She always seems to make the right reads. I think there may be some women’s intuition at work there. Whatever it is it works for Jennifer. She has had much success at the game. Take a minute to get to know her better.
